Watercolor Snapdragons
May 19, 2025Hello artists! I created another fun mini tutorial about how I painted these watercolor snapdragons. I started with a loose first layer using a mix of rose madder, opera pink, yellow (either winsor or cadmium yellow) and the same yellow mixed with cobalt blue for the leaves. You can also use sap green and tint it either yellow-er or more blue depending on what you prefer. I used Arches 140lb cold pressed watercolor paper and different round brushes including silver black velvet number 4 and 6.
I keep it loose, allowing the pink petals so sometimes merge a little into the green leaves while still wet. The leaves get smaller as I move up the stalk of flowers, and I use shorter brush strokes for these. As always, I love to see your paintings, so please feel free to share them on social media, or reach out if you have any questions. Happy Painting!
